HOW TO SHIP:

Sample submission will be done according to the tests requested and the method of delivery should ALWAYS be overnight delivery to preserve the viability of the specimen, and therefore the viability of the results.

You do not have to send the fish "as fish" - in fact, some carriers will NOT carry live fish but they WILL carry scientific specimens (even if they are alive) So the boxes should be labelled SCIENTIFIC SPECIMENS and you probably should NOT mention anything about LIVE FISH when talking with the carrier.

NO WARM (non-iced) tissue specimens should be sent unless sent in Formalin. All specimens should be sent cool and alive, or ice-cold dead, or frozen, depending upon the tests you want. Certain specimens can be sent in Formalin. Shipping will be detailed for each specimen and test required.

* LIVE FISH are the only way to know what parasites are on the fish.
* KHV testing via In Situ Hybridization - please send - Formalin specimens
* KHV testing via PCR - please send - Frozen or fresh cold tissues or kidney swab.
* Bacterial culture and sensitivity - please send - Fresh cold tissues neither frozen nor formalin fixed.
* Serological testing - please send - Red-top tube sent cold -
* Parasite testing - please send - LIVE FISH ONLY

The above are general guides. Call the numbers above or below for specific questions.
